All RCP’s complete an extensive orientation process over a
16 to 20 week period. Our department utilizes the following

We are a diverse department, and have recently hired both
new grads and seasoned RT’s. The average years of service on
our night shift is15 years. Overall our staff ranges from
0-25years with approximately 24 FTE’s.
Most all RT’s are involved with various projects, and we are
examining introducing a Professional Practice model.
Our department’s 16-20 week orientation process is perhaps
one of the most extensive in the state, as our RCP’s play an
active role with patient care through collaboration with the
HCT in determining appropriate therapies that will provide
an optimal outcome. We work closely with Attendings,
Residents, and MLP’s in the ICU’s and participate in patient
rounds.Suggesting and implementing vent strategies by the
RCP is common.
Our shifts are 7-3pm, 3-11pm, and 11-7am. We also offer
7a-7p and 7p-7a. We also offer: 2 eight hour and 2 twelve
hour shifts for the full-time RT.

We have one full-time Educator, and average 5 preceptors who
are involved with RT students rotating through our
department from various colleges and universities.
We are actively involved with enhancing the level of
education for the nurse with regard to the many aspects of
Respiratory Care and conventional ventilation management. We
actively participate with Internship and Shadowing programs.
