DR. PAUL KANEV NAMED CHIEF OF NEUROSURGERY AT CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER AND HARTFORD HOSPITAL

HARTFORD, Conn.—Paul M. Kanev, MD, MS, of East Longmeadow, Mass, has been named chief of Neurosurgery at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and Hartford Hospital.

Dr. Kanev comes to Hartford from Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass, where he was chief of the Division of Neurosurgery and clinical professor of Neurosurgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. He also served on the consulting staff at Shriner's Hospital for Children. Previously, Dr. Kanev served as the director of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Epilepsy Surgery at the Penn State School of Medicine and Hershey Medical Center.

“We are honored to have Dr. Kanev join our team,” said CCMC Surgeon-in-Chief Fernando Ferrer, MD. “This is an exciting time at Connecticut Children’s as we continue to expand our surgical capability, and Dr. Kanev and our Neurosurgery Department are an integral and vital component in that growth.”

“We welcome Dr. Kanev and look forward to working with him,” added Lenworth Jacobs, MD, director of the trauma programs at both Hartford Hospital and CCMC.  “He brings a wealth of experience in both pediatric and adult neurosurgery that strengthens and enriches our combined programs.”

Dr. Kanev received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn, and a master’s degree in chemical and biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. He received his medical degree from Temple University Medical School, and completed his pediatric residency at New England Medical Center. Dr. Kanev completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Washington where he also served as the chief neurosurgery resident. He completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle.

Dr. Kanev is board-certified in neurological and pediatric neurological surgery. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons and the American Association of Neurologic Surgeons.
