HARTFORD – With $8.35 million raised to date Connecticut
Children’s Medical Center President and CEO Larry M. Gold announces
that the Make Room for Kids capital fundraising campaign is at the
halfway point and the public fundraising phase is underway.
Gold said funds raised to date in the $16.7 million Make Room for
Kids campaign are already transforming CCMC. “Construction projects
funded by Make Room for Kids are enhancing our capacity to care for
critically ill and traumatically injured children thanks to a 50%
expansion of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Six new beds in the
PICU ease a chronic shortage of beds for children needing intensive
care,” Gold said. The project also funded new equipment, new Family
Sleep Rooms, a Chapel and a Family Lounge for the PICU.
In Radiology, a $3.5 million expansion has provided new diagnostic
capability with a new CT Scanner and a new Magnetic Resonance
Imager.
“As a not-for-profit organization it is only through this kind of
generous fundraising support that we are able to upgrade our
facilities and equipment to help make kids better,” Gold said.
Still on the drawing boards awaiting approval from the state Office
of Health Care Access are plans for a 25% expansion of the Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit to add six more beds. Next to come pending state
approval is a proposed $7 million expansion for a new Day Surgery
Center, new operating rooms for Minimally Invasive Surgery and
doubling the size of pre-operative and post anesthesia recovery
units. “This will be our largest and most visible expansion yet, and
will build out onto the second floor roof on the Washington Street
side of the building,” Gold explained.
