Neonatal ICU | Division of Neonatology

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center provides a broad array of general and specialty services for infants of all gestational ages and medical conditions.  Members of the CCMC Division of Neonatology collaborate with specialists in Maternal/Fetal Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Neurology, Genetics, Pediatric and Cardiac Surgery, and other medical and surgical subspecialties to assure optimal care before and after birth.  As the primary pediatric teaching hospital of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, the CCMC NICU is a principal training site for the University of Connecticut's residency program in Pediatrics and its subspecialty fellowship program in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

A tertiary referral unit for critically ill newborn infants, the CCMC NICU admits approximately 500 babies each year, either inborn at Hartford Hospital (80%) or transferred from other hospitals (20%).  The unit offers intensive medical, surgical, and nursing care, comprehensive diagnostic capabilities, and state-of-the-art bedside electronic monitoring, respiratory support, and radiology services.  A variety of additional specialty services are available to provide nutritional, lactation and family support.

Consultations or patient-related questions can be directed to the attending in the NICU at 860-545-9750. Requests for urgent transports should be made directly to the Regional Neonatal Transport Program at the University of Connecticut Health Center at 860-679-2397.
