Camp Courant Discovery Center

The Discovery Center Room, adjacent to the Hematology/Oncology outpatient care center, provides a diverse learning center for patients undergoing treatment for childhood cancer and blood disorders. Many of the children require repeated, sometimes day long stays. Dr. Eileen Gillan, who provided inspiration for the center, did not want these patients to waste countless hours when they could be participating in fun, educational activities.

The Discovery Center Room was made possible through a generous gift from the Hartford Courant. Hartford's Camp Courant is the largest free day camp in the nation, serving up to 2,500 Hartford children during the summer season. Children ages 5 through 12, who live in the city of Hartford, participate in a variety of recreational, educational and cultural programs at the campsite in Farmington. All of the programs are geared towards developing self-esteem, building positive relationships and having fun.
