Mission Statement The mission of the SCAN Program
is to provide comprehensive medical and psychosocial care in
a culturally sensitive manner to children who have
experienced acute sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect.
The SCAN staff seeks to support permanency and safety while
providing advocacy on behalf of the child victim and
non-offending parent or caregiver. In our advocacy role we
strive to enhance community awareness through education on
the recognition of child abuse and neglect. The Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Program at
Connecticut Children's Medical Center is a clinical
service that provides medical, forensic, and psychosocial
consultation to medical providers at Connecticut Children's
Medical Center, as well as community-based providers and the
Department of Children and Families. In addition, ongoing
services such as: child and family advocacy during the
investigation process, and mental health counseling to the
child victim and family are also offered. SCAN staff
participates in the Hospital Child
Protection Team to provide direct input on the
management of child abuse and neglect cases.
