ADULT PROGRAM SOCIAL WORK SERVICES

Adult Social Work Services at the CCCFC are intended to address a variety of concerns people may have in dealing with a chronic illness like Cystic Fibrosis. Given the rising numbers of people living well into adulthood with CF, there is an increased need for adult-specific services in order to enhance the overall health and well-being of patients. Many facets of adult life need to be addressed, from the particular emotional challenges CF presents in later years to the practical problems that can arise financially and occupationally. Coping with CF, adjustment to hospitalization, stress/ time management, and vocational/ career planning are just a few of the areas with which the Social Worker at our Center may be helpful. In addition to providing brief supportive counseling, the Social Worker can assist in making referrals to community-based resources as well. Transitioning to the Adult Program from the Pediatric Program is an important time to use both Social Workers for guidance and to problem-solve throughout the process. As part of the multi-disciplinary team at the Center, the Social Worker is available to meet with patients and families during clinic visits, hospitalizations, and by phone or office appointment upon request.
