Led by Director Fernando Ferrer, MD—who also serves as the medical center’s surgeon-in-chief—Connecticut Children’s Department of Urology provides comprehensive services covering all abnormalities of the genitourinary system. Dr. Makari comes to Connecticut Children’s from the Division of Pediatric Urology at Vanderbilt University where he just completed his clinical fellowship. He received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from The Ohio State University where he also received his medical degree as well as master’s degrees in public policy and management, and health services management and policy.

Dr. Makari completed his surgical and urological residencies at the George Washington University where he also served as chief resident.

He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Urological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Pediatric Urology. Dr. Makari also is an assistant professor of urology with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. His research includes a recent study funded by the Society for Pediatric Urology. In addition to patient care, he will be pursuing clinical outcomes research in pediatric urology at Connecticut Children’s.
