"THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM AND CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER PARTNER FOR NEW HOSPITAL STAY/FREE MUSEUM DAY PROGRAM " The Children’s Museum (formerly the Science Center of Connecticut) has announced a new partnership program with Connecticut Children’s Medical Center that will provide a free day at the museum for any inpatient who has spent a night in the hospital at CCMC. The program has been dubbed “Hospital Stay/Free Museum Day”. As part of its rebranding campaign to target children aged twelve and under, The Children’s Museum is reaching out to the community to share their programs with children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the museum. In announcing the new initiative, Edward J. Forand Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of The Children’s Museum said, “We are excited and honored to bring this program to the greater Hartford community. The children who are patients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center deserve a day of fun and exploration after their hospital stays and we’re glad we can offer this experience to the diverse audience that CCMC serves. It is our hope that this will be a rewarding and successful endeavor and we look forward to finding ways to expand the program in the future.” Beginning in September, when each young inpatient is discharged, he/she will receive one general admission guest pass that can be redeemed at any time in the future for a free day at The Children’s Museum in West Hartford. The cost of the program is being underwritten by the museum. According to Tom Hanley, Director, Public Relations for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center “More than 5,000 children a year are hospitalized overnight as inpatients at CCMC so this is a significant gift by the Children’s Museum. What a great idea to help the healing process for the children we serve.”The Children’s Museum is committed to igniting the curiosity of young people through science and nature. In addition to the museum, the organization includes the United Technologies Wildlife Sanctuary, the Gengras Planetarium, the Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton and The Children’s Museum Preschool, one of the oldest preschools in the country. The Children’s Museum serves over 200,000 people annually, and is the fifth oldest children’s museum in the country and Connecticut’s largest museum. Located at 950 Trout Brook Drive in West Hartford, the museum is accessible from I-84 Exit 43 and offers free parking. For more information, visit the website at www.thechildrensmuseumct.org. |
