"DRC-FM RADIOTHON RAISES RECORD $205,275 FOR CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER"

HARTFORD, Conn.— The 102.9 DRC-FM 2006 Internationally Award Winning Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon benefiting Connecticut Children’s Medical Center has raised a record-breaking $205,275. This year’s amount tops the $162,000 raised at last year’s event.

This is the fourth year of the radiothon that took place from 6 am to 7 pm, Thursday Aug. 31 through Saturday, Sept. 2 and aired live from the medical center’s cafeteria. The DRC-FM on-air talent who took part in the radiothon included John “Cadillac” Saville and Beth Bradley from the 102.9 DRC-FM Morning Show as well as Larry Wells, Doug Taylor and Mike Stevens. Saville and Bradley also volunteered their time past their normal morning show hours of 6 to 10 am, and worked 13 hours each day, often joining Wells, Taylor and Stevens on the air.

“DRC-FM and their listening audience are extraordinary people. Their generosity is an inspiration to everyone at Connecticut Children’s,” said Martha Schall, vice president of the CCMC Foundation.

Heartwarming interviews with patients, families and staff were conducted throughout the broadcast. The radiothon donations fund the purchase of sophisticated medical equipment and also support special programs at the medical center. The radiothon also got a jumpstart on Thursday from WFSB Channel 3 meteorologist Scot Haney who added a visual element by previewing the event live on his morning broadcast.

Dave Nagel, program director of 102.9 DRC-FM, thanked the station’s loyal listeners for their generosity, and said that his staff looks forward to interacting with the dozens of patients and families who take part in the event.

“It’s an honor for us to share the miraculous stories that happen in this hospital every day,” Nagel said. “Our listeners should be proud of the difference they make in the lives of these children.”

Additional thanks goes out to all the listeners who joined the medical center’s “Family of Friends” program by pledging $15 a month for 12 months. Thanks also to Dunkin Donuts, Panera Bread, Elisa on the Ave, the Goodwin Hotel, and everyone who heard our message and were there for our children.
