Early Childhood Program
A diagnostic, language-based special education program is
provided for young children who manifest developmental
delays and/or problems of adjustment. Emphasis is on the
development of social, communication, cognitive, and motor
skills, as well as parent education, training and support.
Elementary School Program
The elementary program fosters the overall development of
the student in a structured, supportive learning
environment. Each student’s program is highly individualized
according to the student’s profile of strengths and areas of
need. Specialized options include support for learning and
language disabilities and functional skill development.
Middle/Intermediate Program
The middle/intermediate program provides traditional as well
as remedial and functional curricula through a
self-contained classroom model. Students are also exposed to
various prevocational and vocational experiences from career
exploration to community job placement.
Functional Skills Program
At each level, including high school, one or more functional
skills classes exist to provide greater emphasis on
practical daily life skills and pre-vocational competencies.
Age-appropriate social skill development is also emphasized
at all levels.
Autism Program
The Autism Program is specifically designed to meet the
needs of students whose exceptionality falls within the
Autistic Spectrum. Program emphasis is on the development of
communication, self-help, daily living, functional
academics, and social interaction skills, as well as
prevocational competencies. Each student's program is
individualized with instruction provided on a one-to-one
basis and in small group settings, utilizing principles of
applied behavioral analysis and systematic instruction,
inclusive of discrete trial as appropriate. Sensory
integration activities are also incorporated for each
student when indicated.
School on Wheels
The School on Wheels is an educational program staffed by
the CCMC School to provide tutoring and academic enrichment
services to children in the hospital. When requested and
appropriate, CCMC will contact a child's school to develop
an individualized academic program during hospitalization
and transition plan at discharge.
Vocational Program
The CCMC School vocational program encompasses a
comprehensive educational process that relies on real work
as the focal point for career assessment (both interest and
aptitude) and job exploration. We begin with preparation in
the form of pre-vocational classes, job-shadowing, guest
speakers, and in-house cottage industries to assess
readiness for more advanced programming. Opportunities are
available for students to explore numerous occupations both
on-site and in the community, in conjunction with staff
support. Our vocational program is tailored to address the
individual student's cognitive/academic, developmental,
motor, and language functioning, as well as unique interests
and career preferences.
S.T.R.I.D.E.
STRIDE stands for (Short-term Therapeutic Review,
Intervention, and Diagnostic Evaluation). STRIDE is an
eight-week diagnostic program for students ages 4 to 21.
STRIDE provides the local education agency with an
opportunity to enroll students in a therapeutic environment
on a short-term basis, for an intensive and comprehensive
assessment of current academic, behavioral, and emotional
status. STRIDE also provides a structured four-week
transition program for the student who immediately returns
to the local school district. As with all CCMC School
programs, STRIDE emphasizes the importance of ongoing
collaboration and communication between staff,
parents/guardians, and the local education agency.
Extended Year Program
The CCMC School summer program runs from early July through
the middle of August. An extension of the regular school
year, the summer session continues to deliver necessary
